The announcement last week of the Governments preferred route for the proposed High Speed 2 line from London to Birmingham and them on to Manchester, Leeds and the North has generated much column inches with the main political parties bickering over the detail of the plans and whether Heathrow should be included on the route.
It is, of course, early days with no turf planned to be cut until 2017 and I am sure much debate and discussion will take place in the next 5 or so years. All I hope is that the overall aims of the project are seen through to a timely conclusion and not diluted and delayed with endless reviews and consultations. This is a huge opportunity for the indigenous UK Rail Industry and all those who work in it. Let us hope we live to see it!
